Hi all,
Since Amazon Shorts was introduced last year, I've downloaded a number of shorts from various authors just to see the quality of the writing and whether spending 49 cents for a short story less than five or ten thousand words was worthwhile.
Overall I think the quality of writing is good. These writers obviously take their craft seriously since they get a royalty of just 20 cents (the rest goes to Amazon). Not just anyone can submit a story there. You have to be a published author with at least one book listed on the site.
The aim of the Amazon Shorts program is to allow readers more exposure to the different works of an author. I'm not sure how well the program is doing as Amazon does not reveal any statistics.
So far I've downloaded a couple of shorts from Amazon and can recommend some of the stories by - Kevin J. Anderson, Michael Swanwick, Bruce Holland Rogers but my favorite has to be Carl Gordon's - The Pre-Offender.
