no... there are small indie publishers all over the country... nyc is the center of the publishing industry, just as LA/hollywood is the center of the film industry...

publishers/producers [or agents] outside of those centers aren't likely to have the best connections... and connections is what it's all about...

true... but the ultimate goal is max book sales, so houses located in the major publishing centers will be better able to accomplish that...

however, a newbie without an agent will have a much better chance of snagging a small, indie publisher in the 'boonies' than one of the biggies in ny or london... and, like avis, they may try harder...
