Lightbulb Million Pound Story

The Million Pound Story is an online collaborative writing project which is open to the entire global online writing community. The concept is very simple - we are offering contributors the opportunity to take part in a unique writing project which, if successful, will be turned into an interactive DVD. The characters, plot, theme, setting will all be put to the online community we hope to attract and you will decide how the project should develop.

We are looking to develop the story over the next 12 months after which we hope to turn into an interactive DVD film. All that who part in the writing of the online story will be eligible to receive a share of 50% of the profits generated by the sale of the final DVD. We feel that this is fair as you the online community will have helped create the product.

Million Pound Story will be financed by the sale of ad space on the site as well as though donations / sponsorship. What we need you to do is come take part. The site is completely free to view, you can sign up for our free monthly newsletter or sign up to our forum it your choice.

The most important aspect at this point in time is the Latest Polls page. Our current vote is to decide what Genre the online story will take, so take the opportunity to cast your vote at :

http://www.millionpoundstory.com/latest_polls.shtml

The more of you that vote the more interesting and representative the final choice of genre will be, after all this your chance to help shape the story and ultimately the entire project. One last thing do let us know what you think, the more feed back we get the better. I hope you find this an intriguing concept and are inspired to join in.

Dephere is an unknown quantity at this point
I only have one question....On the site it said that you guys pick out five randomly from the mix...what's to stop you from accidentally picking five of the worst submissions? Shouldn't you guys judge on quality?....

Good spot there yes we will be reading all the submissions and sorting the good from the bad if I can put it as simply as that. We have been asked if we could put all entries on the site but I think this would depend on how many we would get at any given time. We are changing the things slightly and having up-to 10 submissions on the site for a vote. The one thing we don't want to do is to for example put too many submissions up and people not read them all make a vote not based on what they have read.

I don't know if you have any further thoughts on what i have said but fee free to fire any thing back at us.

Interesting idea, but (a) don't see you selling much advertising space on an unproven site, especially with those prices, and (b) that'll fund the making of a dvd movie? You'd better hope the chosen genre is kitchen sink.

Hello

Interesting comments you make but I surprise surprise disagree. Selling space on the site all comes down to ROI (Return On Investment) for the advertiser. Let me hi-light a few things.

I don't know if you know of the phenomenon that are the pixel sites. These are basically a home pages full of ad's nothing else to it. Now who would in their right mind goes to a site to see a page full of ad's? Not many you would think?

I would suggest you take a look at www.milliondollarhomepage.com. this was set up by a student who was unknown and un-proven back in August last year. He made 1 million Dollars from this a page full of ads. Just shows you what possible don't it?

Now the above site is just one of many out there and these are just get rich quick schemes nothing else. There no reason for any one to visit them the ROI for advertisers is at best hard to justify but if you look at this site and others like it ad space is being bought. I might add that the student was sell ad space at $1 per pixel which is more than our price. The site mentioned above also got national and global press and TV coverage go figure but it did, again the power of the internet and marketing!

Million Pound Story on the other hand has a lot better ROI for advertisers, why well we are developing a story i.e. reason for people to keep coming back. We run for around the 3 year mark and during that time there are good reasons for people to keep visiting, to vote, see how the story develops, submit their contributions sound off about the project in the forum to name a few. We also have the site fully backed with stats so we know who, where when and how people come and use the site.

I also think in terms of PR we have a much stronger story to tell the media. Using the internet to create content though contributing writers around the world to create a story which then is developed into something people can then watch at home. Now there is another major difference if this project is successful and lets face it we only launched the site 2 weeks ago every one who contributes to the writing of the story gets the accreditation and a percentage of the profits we can't say fair than that really. We are in full swing with promoting the project so all who contribute will be featured on the site and can share in the PR that we raise around the project. In our view this project is a two way street where everyone stands to gain something.

What we are saying let see where we go with this, be sure if you don't get out there and make things happen you can be guaranteed nothing will. We are excited about the prospect of working with writers and getting there views but most importantly getting you to take part in this. This is a serious project and in terms of the marketing both online and traditional we have good resources in place to make it happen. If any one would like to speak with me personally my details are below I will be more than happy to go though things.

MPS Problem sorted, lets vote guys

Hello

Last week was pretty busy . We noticed in the early part of last week an error in the poling system. Oh well an unfortunate server problem put our scripts up side down. So what was the problem? Well we did have quite few people subscribing for the newsletter and voting at same time but if the subscription was recorded, the voting system did not record anything. However we manage in the end to sort out the problem and now everything is working well. You still have a bit of time to choose the genre, I have to remind you that on the 10th of April the voting for the genre is going to be close, so cast you vote now!

Its the last 10 days before we close the genre poll and begin the next stage of the story. If you have not voted yet for what you would like the genre to be cast your now at the link below:

http://www.millionpoundstory.com/latest_polls.shtml

The next stage is the submission of rough story outlines which is where things start to get interesting. We see the project as being a mix of live action and animated content. There will be some discussion of this on our project forum in the next few weeks:

http://www.millionpoundstory.com/forum.html

thanks to all who have voted and I hope you keep dropping back to see how the project develops.

Lightbulb Call for loose story outlines

The Genre Vote

The voting for Phase 1 has now finished with Fantasy being chosen for the Genre of the online story. Thank you to all who took part in this our opening vote in the project. To see the results of the genre vote visit http://www.millionpoundstory.com/last_polls.shtml The next stage of the project now begins with a call for submissions for the loose story outline.

The Loose Story Outline phase gives every one the chance to create a loose framework for the main story. This is meant to be a guide and not 100% ridged framework but is there to facilitate some structure to what could be a rather unstructured process and offer contributing writers a starting point to the story.

The Outline will define the Timeframe, basic information on the Characters, World & Environment and a loose definition of what the story is about. This phase of the project is open for submissions and will be put to a popular vote to decide which submission will be chosen to be the story outline.

A point to remember is that although the genre has been chosen, Fantasy in this case the story is not yet written and can contain many other elements like for example comedy, suspense, action, mystery etc. The story outline is not something that should be seen as limiting the story, rather more of a rough map of what might be with some starting points in there as inspiration.

To find out more information on the this next phase of the project visit: http://www.millionpoundstory.com/the_story.html

To make a submission for this next part of the project you can email your story outline to: story@millionpoundstory.com

I hope that you take the opportunity to submit a loose story outline to the project and really get things moving into this next phase. Your submissions can be as long or as short as you wish and also remember to include some details about your self and what you have done, web links, email etc. It is up to you what you want to be published on the site but all who contribute will have a page linking from the writers page on our site http://www.millionpoundstory.com/writers.html Fee free to use this to promote your other works and projects.

Forums

As we move into this next phase of the project we will be making more use of the site forum to discuss the submissions and the direction that the project is taking. We hope you take the opportunity to open a topic here and post some of your thoughts as well.

The Million Pound Story project is still alive and kicking and we have now started to receive submissions for the story outline. You can fine these by going to the following link http://www.millionpoundstory.com/story_outlines.html

As of this moment we have four submissions on the site and the beginning of a discussion in the Forum http://www.millionpoundstory.com/forum.html about the current submissions. We are keeping this part of the project open for a longer period of time to allow more posts to create a larger pallet of ideas for the main story. Remember any contribution is relevant as what we are trying to do at this point is generate ideas which everyone can then feed off.

To submit a Story Outline email story@millionpoundstory.com
