Smile write, vote, win: a perpetual writing contest

hello!

a new website is seeking stories for a new type of contest. essentially, you write a story, have people to vote for it, and if you receive the most votes at payout time, you win the payout.

right now payouts are $100 US, but the aim of the site is to award over $12,000 per month.

take a look and let me know what you think!

From what I see it sounds interesting. This site lets you retain your copyright as well.

that sounds really awesome and fair, because it's voted on by readers and not so stuffy judge. too bad i haven't finished a story yet.

Submitted a story...cool site, love the premise. I'll definitely be submitting a lot to this place in the future.

Great find.

I haven't looked at the site yet (but will as it sounds interesting).

The brief description I've seen here though makes me wonder how vulnerable it is to gaming the system? What would be to stop one from setting up several accounts to prop up one's rank? Or, strategic voting, where you vote against strong, opposing stories? And would it be considered kosher to get a bunch of your friends to sign up and vote for your story - essentially turning it into a popularity contest rather than a story contest?

Just a couple thoughts - maybe there are already controls to prevent this. Like I said - I have yet to visit the site. I could just be overly cynical tonight too.

I have to agree, Frank, it's too open to manipulation. I'm guessing if you're willing to spend a few hours on it you could guarantee a win.

Regardless of that, why submit at all? If your story is good enough you can earn similar money from getting published in a eputable mag. Which will look better on your credits - quality mag/unheard of website?
