Good publishers for lyrics (poetry)
people have at times told me I should get published, i'm not really one to take confidence in my work, but seeing as how the band will take awhile before it can get its bearings I feel I want to share some of my stuff (though I may write alot of new, fresh material) with the rest of the world. However its a daunting task to sort through publishers when your someone as unexperienced as me, and before Istarted looking I was wondering if anyone knew of a publisher willing to publish a 17 year old lyrics writer....

song lyrics are published by music publishing companies... that's a very different thing from getting poems and stories published in magazines...
it's not 'you' getting published as a 'writer' but the songs... and, unless you have music to go with the lyrics, you've virtually no chance of getting them published...
if you do have the music, then you must have a professional-quality demo made and submit it to music publishers [you can google for lists]... or, try to get a recording artist to either buy the song or want to record it...
if what you have are poems [poems do not = 'lyrics'], then you should check the latest edition of 'poet's market' for appropriate places to submit your work... it's put out by writer's digest and can be found in most libraries and any major book store [online, too]...
as well as being a full time poet, i'm a lyricist, among other things, and a former member of sga [songwriters guild of amer.], so if you want any further help or advice, feel free to email me...
love and hugs, maia

ps: age is not relevant, only talent/writing quality is... no one will care how old you are, till it's time to sign a contract... m

don't know what you had in mind there... regardless of whether you play them yourself or not, you still can try to get your songs published... that will earn you royalties whenever anyone else 'covers' them...

you still seem to be confused... why would you not want to publish songs you are 'using' and only those you don't?... you can still 'use' the songs you might be lucky enough to get published... the difference is that you'll get paid when anyone else 'uses' them!
