film adaptation of classic literature

what are the chances of a nobody (me) adapting a great piece of literature into a script for film by simply 'asking for the publishers permission'.?

your thoughts,
thanks

...realistically?... zip, to nil... however, if you are referring to 'great literature' of more than 70 years ago, the copyright may have run out and you may not need anyone's permission...

...so, what is it you mean?... current 'greats'?... or 'greats' from the past?...

just because the chances are slim to none doesn't mean a miracle can't happen now and again... the worst they can say is 'no'... it costs you nothing to ask... and if you don't ask, you can't get a 'yes'... one of mu own 'greatest lines' is:

"Nothing's impossible till you quit and nothing's possible unless you start."
