DOTS is a historical novel, set in the late 16th century. It tells the story of Maria, a young Flemish girl, who sets of on a great adventure when she marries a Spanish officer.
Her adventure first takes her to Mexico (New Spain) where her husband is murdered, and she is kidnapped by Aztec warriors. She is forced to become the wife of their king, a grandson of Montezuma the Great.
The hidden city is attacked by the Spanish, and Maria tries her best to save the women and children. But she is taken back to Mexico City as a prisoner and shall be tried in court.
One of the judges takes pity on her and offers marriage. On their way back to Spain, their vessel is ambushed by English privateers - and then Maria meets their dashing Captain!
When King Felipe of Spain sends Maria's husband to the English court as special ambassador, Maria accompanies him...
