Looking for someone to help me co-author a story
I have had in mind creating a project that operates based mainly on the interaction between two people.
The story itself falls upon the science fiction vein. At the moment I do have a rough outline and opening, but being as this is a two man project, things will always be open to change.
The reason I want it to be co-authored, is because I want to see how much can change. This would open myself, and my partner in this endeavor, to new ways of thinking we may have never considered.
There are a few requirements though. Mainly, I want to see some of your previous work beforehand, so I can get a good feel of your style. So just email me at Aglassthought@aol.com, with a summary of yourself and how you write, and an attachment of what you feel is your best work to date.
Also, age is a factor. I'm not trying to put down the younger members, but from my own experience, writing matures with age.
hopefully I get a few replies at least.

So far I've only gotten two replies. Anyone else interested?

I would definitely be interested. I will send you some works (unpublished) tomorrow if that would work?

a few words of caution... regardless of how amiable such partnerships may be at the outset, too many have ended in disaster... so, be sure to have a collaboration contract in place, before beginning any co-authored project...
wga has samples of those used by members, on their east and west websites [ www.wga.org & www.wgae.org ]... but, even if you use their version, it's important to have a literary attorney [representing you, only] go over it before signing anything...
if you're only considering a story and not a novel, at least have an agreement in writing drafted that will cover who gets what credit and what share of payment, if any, should the story be published...
for a novel, most [if not all] publishers will insist on seeing a collaboration contract, before considering the ms, as they don't want to risk getting caught up in a war between the parties, down the road...
here's a very good site for info on the subject:
http://www.sarahwernick.com/bookcollaborations/faq.html
pay particular attention to the 'Should we sign a contract?' section...
love and hugs, maia

epone,
I know I'm relatively young, but I'm smart enough to understand growth. I know that I'm a much better writer now than I was when I was 17. Age is only a factor when looking at a writer's maturity. Just because I'm 19 does not mean I'm not mature enough to write seriously. One of the best science fiction writers of all time wrote his first novel at my age. Now, I'm not saying the story I have in mind is going to be a novel, but it has potential for growth, so I can't rule that out either.
Maia,
A contract would definately be a good idea. But that would be something to talk about after I had a person to collaborate with. Thanks for the links.
Ghostwriter,
Still waiting for that email.

What is the general plotline of the story?

More or less, it's too people trying to find a place to be home. Of course it isn't that simple.
I'd rather wait until I chose someone before I divulged the details, because I don't really know how to put it simply. I can say that the story involves taking two people and putting them in the worst of circumstances and seeing if they can come out of it and still be able to consider themselves human.

It helps to know the basic idea first because some writers are better at dealing with people than others. It seems like an interesting idea though.

that's why i wanted to see some of their writing first, so that way I can see if their style is close enough to what I'm looking for. So far I've only had one person email me. I would have thought I could have got more people interested than that. But hey, it happens.

Both Gohn and Slayer, check your Inbox.
Both of you have good work, and slayer, I find it a remarkable oddity that you exactly one year younger than I am.
Hopefully one of you says no so that way it takes the decision making responsibility off of my shoulders.
hope to hear somethin soon,
Glass

I'm still thinking about it, but if Slayer accepts before I do, that's cool. I have to think it through a bit.

It isn't a matter of who says yes first. If it's something you want to do then say so. You have time to think. In the end, I'm going to have to decide who to work with. In the meantime, read Belial. It would be good to have someone who is relatively familiar with my posts to give me some feedback.
