Call for submissions - Carnival Macabre Magazine

Carnival Macabre is a magazine dealing with the darker side of art and culture. Focused on dark/macabre art and fiction/poetry, articles about the occult and art, interviews with writers and artists.

Full submission guidelines:

Short Fiction(flash fiction, short stories, poetry):
Horror and dark fantasy, yet we will consider anything that is weird enough, no matter what genre it belongs to. Feel free to submit anything that you think may find a place within the Carnival’s pages. Humor is all right, as long as it’s sick, or at the very least, twisted.
Profanity and sexual situations are fine, as long as it’s not clearly pornographic.

Reviews(movies, books, comics, music, websites, magazines) - Horror/Cult/Macabre
Interviews (artists, writers, directors, or anyone that has something interesting to say. Maybe your grandma?)
Articles
Photography (has to be unusual, dark and/or horror related)
Art (all mediums, not half assed sketches though. Horror/Dark/Macabre)

Anything else you think will interest us, submit it. We even accept cadavers (whole or parts).

Word Limits:
Fiction: we accept stories from 500 to 6000 words. Flash fiction welcome.
Poetry: 75 to 300 words. No haikus.
Reviews: Should be relatively short, no exact word limit through.
Articles: Depending on the subject matter. If it’s interesting, we can work something out no matter what the length is.

Reprints:
Reprints are fine.

Simultaneous submissions:
No. We like to know for sure that we can use anything submitted to us.

Multiple submissions:
Feel free to submit as many works as you want.

Submission Formatting Guidelines:
Word files, or rtf.
In the body of your email and in the word file itself, include your name, email address, estimated word count, and a brief bio written in third person.

Send submissions to: carnival_macabre@yahoo.com

Response time:
Response time is an estimated 2 weeks.

Payment?
Carnival Macabre is not a paying gig. We really can't afford it, since we're only doing this out of pure love for art, and nothing more.

Okay, I'm ticked off and here's why. I remember seeing your submission call back in April 2005.

Ist Post

I sent you an e-mail with a submission as well as posting comments publicly. You never acknowledged my submission which I followed up with an e-mail and PM inquiry and I recinded it on July 15 because I found another venue. The poem which I'd originally sent to you has now been accepted by another site. Even if you had deemed it as not within the scope of your publication a simple notification is appropriate.

In the past two years I have submitted a number of poems and short stories to both online and print publications. None of them displayed such a lack of common courtesy to equal yours.

I don't require a raft of excuses but am posting this in the hopes that your attitude with other writers will be less cavalier. Rest assured, I'll never send you anything again.

Ouch. Nonetheless, I deserved that. I did receive your submission, and was actually going to run it.
However some events got out of hand, I was unable to work on anything, and thus the first issue of Carnival Macabre never came to be. I sincerely apologise for not responding at all. Just now did I come back to check all my emails and submissions that have been lying on my mailbox for more than 2 months. Sorry again.
