Copyright ponderings (for my enjoyment...)

There are so many laws and regulations, I get confused!

Is it okay to copy something (an excerpt or article) and read it for my enjoyment/reserach? I do put the title and author's name, giving him/her the credit.

Man... I have a gutsy feeling it's illegal and perhaps the papercut squad will breach my house and give me a bunch of papercuts for breaking the literary law ...(ooo...an alliteration!)

If you have copy right questions, the best place to get answers is the Library of Gongress.

Or try the US Copyright Office at: www.copyright.gov

As to what you are talking about, it is legal to make a copy of something under fail use laws. You of course can't sell the copy. As to including parts of others work in your own work, most non-fiction writers do this, just look at the works cited/biblography in the back of said books.

if you're just copying it to read, why even bother with the attribution?... unless it's just for you to remember where you found it... in which case, why do you have to consider 'credit'?
