So let me see if I have this right, because I really want to understand what I'm reading here. So you were first implying that I was somehow getting a bunch of work done for no money. Then you changed your tune, because you knew you were factually incorrect. So now you're saying that what I'm doing isn't altruistic enough?
How about this: I'm paying people to build a system that you can use for free. I've taken a few months off of work, lived off of savings, and invested thousands of dollars out of my own pocket. Eventually, we will have a database of magazines that rivals even the Writer's Market, and our listings don't require money. But if I'm not doing something good in your opinion, don't use it. Because if you think this system is terrible when I'm "only" paying out a few hundred dollars a month, imagine your outrage when the contests taper off -- the only reward people will have for helping out is a better system! Oh, the horror of a community-maintained database that can be superior to all the other alternatives. People helping people! Writers sharing knowledge! What terror!
I guess in your world, Wikipedia is an awful idea that will never catch on, and books like the Writer's Market are thrown onto your doorstep wrapped in thousand dollar bills. I cannot imagine any other reason to be so denigrating.
