Where to send comedic short stories?

Ive been reading on here that a good start for getting things published is to send things into managazines. I was wondering what type of magazine would accept short comedic stories? Or any good magazines in general to send stuff to? Also, how do you go about sending work to them? Another question: If you send them something, and they decide to publish it, could you still use it later, like say in a book? Or once its published one place its hands off?

sounds like you need to get yourself a recent copy of 'writers market'... you can find a good deal on both the book and online subscription by googling or just going to the writer's digest website...

you'll find the answers to all your questions [and much more helpful get-started stuff!] there...

meanwhile, here are some quick 'n dirty answers:

I was wondering what type of magazine would accept short comedic stories?

...humor mags... or, any that deal with the subject of your story, as humor is needed occasionally even in re the most serious of subjects...

Or any good magazines in general to send stuff to?

...too many to list here... see writers market listings...

Also, how do you go about sending work to them?

...send query letter and piece, for most... always check publisher's guidelines first, though... again, wm will tell you how...

Another question: If you send them something, and they decide to publish it, could you still use it later, like say in a book?

...yes... if they only purchase one-time rights...

Or once its published one place its hands off?

...depends on what rights you sell them... see wm for details...

love and hugs, maia
