if you know html then use it.
I would reccomend: domaindlx.com, it's good for a start.
also if you want a ftp server go with host-dot.com (Thats what I have).
also if you want website layouts: freelayouts.com.
thats my 2 cents, I see Tyson has helped you , good luck.

What you see is what you get, it is a term for a program used to make html easy. It does a lot, but you put in coding yourself to make it easier to have it more flexible to what you want.

Stacy, sorry, I have had a couple busy days at work and exhausted when I got home.
I will PM you a few links I like to use when I have a little extra time and then if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
I'm not sure about putting any of my own writing in Sacred Twilight. It's purpose was for others to have a place to get their work published, not me. One day I may though, maybe under an editors contribution section.

Stacy,
Back as promised.
Here is some things I would recommend.
The Complete Idiot's Guide to Creating A Web Page
This is an excellent book to learn from and have around as a reference. The link is to Amazon.com, where they have editions from under $2.00 upto ones costing around $20.00. I would suggest trying to get one that still has the CD with it. It has a lot of useful programs, both demos and full. It is also packed with useful examples from each area covered within the actual book.
Free Web Hosting
This link is to a site called The Free Site, and the section there called Free Web Hosting. It is an extensive list of sites that offer free hosting. You can research and compare each of them based on what exactly you wish to do. Be thorough though, and don't jump into any one too fast. Do you homework first. Also remember, I have a ton of extra space on my site and am able to host other sites, so that could always be an option. Details could be discussed later, but I'll say the terms would be very reasonable and cheap, as in free.
Some programs I would suggest.
- *CuteFTP
A very simple but powerful FTP program for uploading files to your hosting server.
*Ultra Edit
This is a great text editing program that's as versatile as it is simple. It can use a multitude of formats and is excellent for coding HTML. It displays the text in color coded display so you know what parts are associated with each function.
*Paint Shop Pro
Although this does cost a good deal ($99 when I bought it), it is well worth every penny. There may be other programs you may have or prefer, but you need one that can be used to work with and create the graphics for your site.
Ok, that's all I can think of for now. Oh yeah, you would want to register the name of your domain. Mine is SacredTwilight.com. Most web hosting sites offer to let you register your domain at signup. If not, I will give you a the name of the one I used to register mine. One other thing, when you see a web page you like, do the following.
Right click on an area of it.
Click on View Source
This will display the actual HTML document for the page. By looking at these, you will be able to grasp an understanding for HTML and what each part coincides with on the actual web page. As I have stated, Html is really pretty simple and straight forward, so you may be surprised what you can learn from doing this.
Ok, now that is all I can think of for now. If any questions, feel free to ask. You can post here or ,if you want, you can PM me anytime you wish to.
Cliff

Really? That's got to be the coolest computer tip anyone's ever given me.
I have the "Creating Web Pages for Dummies" book. It's helpful. I haven't finished yet, but I think it has all the basics, and like the book you recommended, it has a CD. It also has this great tear-out cheat sheet for basic HTML.
As for programs, I'll have to consider those. I'm planning to get a new computer as soon as I get my tax return (in a couple weeks according to H&R Block) and I don't dare add any programs to my current computer since it is on the verge of crashing. But in a few weeks. . .
*goes off to try to the View Source tip*

Hey, the fun little right click/view source thing doesn't work for me. Is there another step here?
Edit: Never mind. I tried it on some other sites and it worked on those.

Oh, one tip. Don't do it over a graphic. Won't work there. Also some sites doesn't let the source code be viewable, so may not always work.

Hmm, so how about copyrights? How do you copyright something? I probably should know this, but I don't.

Sorry if I'm hijacking the thread. Would you be interested in paying a little something for a more professional website? Have a look: www.jackspleen.cjb.net

The group and I don't really want to pay for anything until we know we can find readers. Thanks for the offer, though.
Do you like cjb.net? We were looking at using them, but found their site to be too confusing, so we're probably going with bravenet.
We're probably going to start constructing our site soon, even though we've delayed issue one from July to September. After some lengthy discussions, we decided not to accept outside submissions for issue one, which means we're going to have to spend a load of time revising our writings for publications. I think I'm the only one not thrilled about this decision. I think issue one would look much better if we had different writing styles rounding it out, but I see the point of the others. If, for some reason, we couldn't pull off the site, it would be horrible to tell all these would-be published writers.

Our 'zine, Halfway Down the Stairs, is almost done. Just five more documents to format and upload, and we're ready for our target publication date of September 1st.
Thanks to everyone who gave me advice on this thread.

Hey, Tyson! Good to see you! It's been ages. Wow, I don't think I've talked to you since we stopped writing that novel with the nonsensical plot. How've you been?
