Anyone know of any good online writers workshops?

I used to write a lot in high school, nothing remarkable, just the average rants of a teen. Well, I had a child, I went to medical school, I lost my time and desire to write for myself.

I am now working on a completely different path, and I feel like I have the time to write again as well as the desire. The thing is, I want what I had in my creative writing classes in highschool. I want the writing prompts, the group discussion of work, etc. I cannot pick up a writing course right now- I am on such a tight schedule at school (my college has shitty rotation) but I cannot find anything online that is free- I am a mother of three in school- we are POOR!!!

Does anyone out there know of free useful online writers workshops? I will be so grateful to anyone that can point me in the right direction! Trishia

Have you explored all of the resources that Writing Forums and its sister sites have to offer? On Writer's Unbound you can find some great writing prompts and Spudley (one of the staff members) has an awesome Automatic Writing Challenge Generator. Another one of our members, AuthorSue has a great site offering free lessons. The group discussions you crave can be had here and at Lit.org when you post your work and comment on the work of others. Using the PM system, you may be able to get yourself a few faithful reviewers who will usually have time to help you.

If you spend a few minutes using the search facility I am sure that you will find other resources on WF and some links to quality sites. Google can help as well; there are a lot of sites and forums dedicated to writing. Visiting as many as you can should give you a well-rounded idea of your abilities and anything that needs to be worked on. I do have to say that as far as writing forums go, you will be hard pressed to find one as good as WF.

Please feel free to send me a PM if you choose to pursue your membership here and need anything at all.

Several months ago I took the F2K ("Fiction 2000") as I couldn't afford to pay for a creative writing course. I found it very useful. You are assigned a "classroom" of about 30 students and a mentor. It takes 6 weeks. Each week you get a lesson and a writing assignment. Our mentor wasn't very active, but my class-mates gave each other good feed-back, and some of the assignments were quite challenging. Here is their website:

I hesitated to post here because I didn't want it to seem like I was promoting myself... but a group of writing coaches and I are unveiling a 42 Day Writing Workshop which begins January 6.

You may participate 100% online or also participate live via telephone teleconference.

There are daily lessons and writing exercises as well as opportunities for further integration. You can do whatever you choose from the menu - you are able to craft the program in the way that would suit you.

You can visit my website (see the link in my profile if you would like more details.)

With Passionate Gratitude,

Julie

Hey!

Try the following links - I know these two are free sites (the top one is mine):

www.writerswords.org
www.critters.org

This one is meant to be a great site also, but I think you have to pay for a membership - $50 or £50 or something like that.

http://fiction.onlinewritingworkshop.com/

Other than that, this is a great site. Just surf the links and I'm sure you'll find something helpful to get back into the swing of things.

Hi,

have been looking through the following site, and it seems to be very good (as well as a massive community). It's part of one of the biggest short story sites around (and I'm completely jealous of it hehe).
