Free contests?
I am not posting news about a contest I was just wondering if anyone knew of a short story contest that was free.

 I wish.
I think a lot of writing competitions out there are just money making schemes that suck us poor writers dry.

I see what you mean one competition that is free that I cna recommend though is L.RON HUBBARDS WRITERS OF THE FUTURE CONTEST. I entered it last month, you have to be aptient for a reply but it is a $1000 prize and its free entry
www.writersofthefuture.com
Besides this I was wondering if there were any other compettitiona that were tfree as this one takes place every three months so i wanted a competition for inbetween.

You may want to check out http://paris-eiffel-tower-news.com/paris-contest.html. They say you can win between EUR 150 and EUR 800 (EUR 800 is close to $900 US if memory serves me right...good enough for a little college boy like me).
The topic is Paris, so if you haven't been there, find someone who has!

Writers of the Future is a well known contest, and does a lot of good work for writers and for the science fiction genre.
However, as with all contests (particularly ones with free entry), it's worth digging a bit to find out who is sponsoring it.
In this case, it's backed by the church of Scientology, which is an organisation that I know a lot of people have issues with. If you're one of those people, you may want to stand back from this one; otherwise go for it - it is a good, well known and free contest, so you can't really lose.
