    Etiquette question when posting on the boards

    After I posted a rewrite to a chapter I thought, what is the best way to do that? Keep the version as originally posted and then post the rewrite/edit in a separate reply to the thread, or edit (overwrite) the version originally posted in the top post?

    Thanks! Don't want to peeve people off.

    I tend to delete the original story and replace it with "Reposted at post number: 27" or whatever the number is, then put up your story in a new post on the same thread. Or just put the repost thingy above the original if you don't wish to delete it. Nice and big so everyone can see it

    Dunno what other people think about this.

    Another question is if you upload a second chapter, do you add second chapter to the same thread (weird to me since you can't change your thread title?) or do you start a second thread with the new chapter and add a link back to the previous chapter?

    There are a lot of ways to note to your readers in the forums if you have revised something. For me, I tend to put everything in the first post and post a short update in a reply post, with a link to the first post inserted in there. If you want to do this tactic, you can use [spoiler2] tags to hide your previous drafts, with the new one the only body of text visible. Here's an example:

    1st post:
    Hey, guys. Just updated my story. Here's the latest revision:

    klkasjdfa sdklasdas daklsda kjdjasjf asjpfj apf hdfjshdkfhsdlkf.....

    For those interested, my previous revisions can be seen here:

    1st revision date xx-xx-xx:
    asdasdasda

    1st draft date xx-xx-xx:
    asdasdsdgsdfhsda
    As to how I coded the quote above, here's the exact BB code:

    HTML Code:
    Hey, guys. Just updated my story. Here's the latest revision:

    klkasjdfa sdklasdas daklsda kjdjasjf asjpfj apf hdfjshdkfhsdlkf.....

    For those interested, my previous revisions can be seen here:

    [spoiler2=1st revision date xx-xx-xx]asdasdasda[/spoiler2]
    [spoiler2=1st draft date xx-xx-xx]asdasdsdgsdfhsda[/spoiler2]
    To link the first post, or any other post for that matter, in the reply post, just right-click on the post number and click "Open in new tab". A new tab or window, depending on your browser setting, will appear containing a link to that post. Copy its URL from the URL bar, go back to the reply post tab you've opened and link it there.

    You can also do it Potty's way. Just don't forget to link your revision post in the main thread. Obtaining the link to the revision post uses the same process in the previous paragraph.

    Hope this helps!

    Separate chapters and revisions are best posted as separate threads with a link to the original.
