Anyone a member of a writing club?

Either a fairly organised sort of place, or an impromptu gathering of scriveners. Anyone?

I've been trying to organise a small gathering of like-minded persons for a few months now. I've imagined it to be similar to that of the Scriblerus Club, The Rhymer's Club, or the notorious 'Vicious Circle', which I'm sure many more Americans are familiar with. It'd quite literally be several persons talking, joking, discussing, sharing work, critiques, etc, over beers, coffee or drinks of any sort. Very impromptu, very relaxed, and bereft of virtually any formality.

I've advertised in a few places, had some very mild interest, though nothing has materialised yet. My friend and I are very much the same person, so it's essentially just myself and him (though it hardly constitutes a club, does it?) I think with two or more people, it'd officially be what I imagine, though it just seems that nobody is out there.

I'm in the Northwest of England by the way, and there's a... err, certain environment up here.

I'd be especially interested in persons responding from the UK. Thanks.

As far as writing per se being the raison d'ętre for forming a club with such loose affiliations with the subject as here proposed, one might as well use the discussion of sandal-throwing or how to boil water.

Bottom line, when it comes to actually doing some actual writing (repetition noticed, thank you), it is a task that draws on stuff stored away in one’s grey matter. The remarks tossed about in such an environment as here proposed are unlikely to add to this store.

Furthermore, the reason for little interest being shown in the advertisements is prolly that writers are generally speaking a solitary lot.
