    Happiness is...

    Happiness is being published.

Hard work really does pay off. I had a piece of flash e-published a few weeks ago, and yesterday I had the latest copy of "Debut" through the post, containing my short story "The Legend of Eternal Happiness"; my first story to appear in print. I even got around to feeling ever so slightly proud of myself as I said at the start of the year I'd like to write something worthy of publication either this year or next. I can't bring myself to re-read the published story though; I'm afraid of spotting a cringe-inducing typo.

Thanks to all who have helped me improve as a writer this year.

moderan, MaggieMoo and Terry D like this.
The sand of the desert is sodden red, -
Red with the wreck of a square that broke; -
The Gatling's jammed and the colonel dead,
And the regiment blind with dust and smoke.
The river of death has brimmed his banks,
And England's far, and Honour a name,
But the voice of schoolboy rallies the ranks,
"Play up! play up! and play the game!"

Hey there.... Happy times. Well done. And as Dale questioned, will you celebrate? He would and so would I.

    Congratulations.
Remember why you like to read, and inundate your writing with your love of story. No great writer ever found reading a chore.

Congrats, Blue! Can't say I'm surprised. You're a brilliant writer.

Congrats! For writers, happiness is being published.

Thanks, everyone. I shall allow myself to celebrate with the delights of a scone, clotted cream, and some jam. My next writing goals are:

    1. To have a short published in something a little more recognised.
    2. To have a novel published.
    3. To chat with Mariella Frostrup about said novel on The Book Show (she's lovely).
    4. To turn literary fiction into the new rock'n'roll.

Erm, might have got carried away a bit with the last one, or two.

Congratulations - your good news is inspiring. (I'll tell you a little secret, I too have fantasised about being interviewed on Open Book, problem is, everyone who is interviewed sounds deeply, intimidatingly deep and philosophical. I'd have to have a decade just to write up my waffle in advance.)

Well done! I have read your stories and they really are excellent, it was only a matter of time. Is the story anywhere on the forum for us to read (and learn from)?
