I don't add sugar to anything, unless I am eating pancakes with lemon and sugar or using it in baking. I don't drink tea or coffee (hvae coffee maybe 5 times a year, don't drink tea) often so I don't need to add anything to those drinks. I don't use sugar very often at all and don't concern myself with my intake of sugar. I am careful to limit soft drinks, diet or regular and trying to replace them with water, just to be healthier.

I add salt to almost everything I eat, and in large quantities. I have since I was a kid and I don't concern myself with the amount I add either, I go by taste. I do have low blood pressure anyway so I don't see salt as something I should avoid. I taste food before I salt it and generally add however much I like. The only time I am careful is when I am cooking for other people, I am careful not to add too much salt to anything because I am aware I like more salt than most people.

(Interesting aside, when I was younger I was convinced salt cooled food down because I'd try the food, then salt it and by the time I was done the food was cooler, therefore, salt cooled the food )

I avoid sugar except in fruits. Straight black coffee, straight tea, plain peanut butter and bread, simple cereals. No soda, no candy, for the most part.
Generally I go for as simple of ingredients as possible, and when possible, no corn syrup or sugar. It makes my body feel better throughout the day, from what I can tell.
Generally I also need to add salt to foods to make sure I am getting enough throughout the day.

Icould not possibly eat without salt as it tastes really bland without it.
I am not familiar with corn syrup, never heard or come cross it before.

I only put sugar on things that I feel need it. I have just cooked about 4kg of curry without a smidgin of salt. It's not a thing I obsess about.

The problem is, you don't have to add sugar or salt to anything to get too much of them. Especially sodium. There's loads of it in most processed foods. And things like soups and salad dressings and bread etc. can have lots of sugar in them. You really have to read the labels to know what you're getting. I remember when I was tracking sodium with a nutrition application -- can't remember how many grams of sodium were the recommended limit -- I just remember that if I wasn't paying attention, one food could throw me off for the whole day.

It was me last halloween, that make up and a zombie bite mark on my arm, also made my veins look swollen/darker with make up, radiating from teh bite mark. Was quite proud of it too!

I never really got into tea or coffee, it doesn't taste that nice. The only coffee I like are Frappachinos (either home made or from starbucks) or Mocha's, but I can only ever drink half of one before it gets too sweet/too much. Never liked tea of any kind, including brown tea, green tea, chamomile etc etc. Not a fan of hot drinks in general, I much prefer all my drinks to be as cold as possible. especially water.

I used to add sugar to rice crispies when I used to eat them, not because of the taste as much, but because of the crunch, so I would just add spoon after spoon to the point where it was no longer dissolving in the milk.

Iknow people who actually add sugar to food to get rid off acidity.
4kg of Curry!!!! wow..how do you do that?
Salt is the same as sugar a question of taste..it is hard to shift taste especially when it comes to teh tiniest detail.

Well, it's hard to know instinctively what your body needs -- and taste certainly isn't a good indicator. I did some research and go by what nutritionists generally agree would be a healthy balanced diet for someone my age, weight, height and level of activity. I'm not obsessed by it -- but I watch what I eat. And that usually means very few processed foods. No, I don't have a problem with sodium, but too much of it can lead to high blood pressure -- and there are problems with that in my family.

PS -- I don't read labels all that much any more. After a while, you learn what's good and what isn't and what to watch out for. I don't count calories either -- I just went through a period where I tracked everything on a computer application -- just so I could get a good idea of who much I should be eating, what's in certain foods and how best to get the nutrition I need. Now it's just habit -- and my wife watches what she eats and buys the right foods for the whole family, which makes it all that much easier.

I consume way too much sugar and I'm aware of it. It's not from foods though. It's from beverages, and that's because I don't like water, and I don't like any sugar-free (or otherwise) water additives to improve the taste. I like milk, but it's not something I want to drink off and on all day at work, so I buy pop (or soda if you prefer). Or tea, but it's the grocery store bottled stuff that is loaded with sugar.

This is a problem I've been trying to figure out for a while, because if I refuse to bring pop or tea to work and bring water instead, I won't drink it. I'll just dehydrate myself.

The salt thing could go either way. Like, yesterday, I didn't eat any processed foods or anything that would've involved a lot of salt. The day before, however, oh yes. I made broccoli-cheddar rice with processed cheese. (For those of you in the states, if you've ever seen the sodium content in Cheese Whiz... holy cow!)

I don't like milk either, I use soya milk and though I don't eat cereal that often, the milk NEEDS to be ice cold, straight from the fridge. If the carton is warm or just from the cupboard, I mix the milk with ice first.

I have been trying to increase my intake of dairy, which is pretty much nil, mainly for calcium, which I know I need. I also need to increase my protein intake, though I do eat quite a lot of protein anyway, so not really sure how to go about that.

But back on topic, as far as I am aware, my sugar intake is fairly normal, and it would only really spike if I went out drinking because I usually have vodka mixed with a soft drink, be it coke or redbull, and sometimes I would have shots which are usually syrupy and full of sugar. My blood pressure is low so I like to think the extra salt is good for me

Some of the best American food originates from a nozzle: hotdogs, hamburger meat(so called), twinkies, and "nuggets" to name just a few. I think the salt and sugar helps with the "flow", along with one of our other favorite ingredients; grease.

By the way, after 3 edits, did I punctuate that properly?

I eat as low on the food chain as humanly possible. Only, I still enjoy red meat (in moderation).

Most fresh fruit has all the sugar I desire. I don't add salt. I'm not a health nut, I just like to keep things simple.

I think I'll go grab an unfiltered Hefeweisen now...
