Who are you favourite active singers/bands at the moment

I know there have been many great singers and bands in the past that many of you still listen to today, I know I do. But I'm curious to know which present day bands/ singers/rappers are your favourite. Here are a few of mine to start off with

    Keane
    Red Hot Chili Peppers
R Kelly (purely for his soul train 2010 performance)
    One Republic
    Cee Lo Green
    Alicia Keys

I think Mastodon have done some truly creative things since Blood Mountain came out. They're pretty much proving that Metal doesn't just have to be a bunch of shouting over repetitive, uninspired riffs. They're definitely one of my favourite bands at the moment; although their latest release has been a struggle, for me. This tune ain't too bad, though:

Muse are another band that just do things a bit differently . . . at least, they used to. Origin of Symmetry and Absolution are incredibly rich and diverse albums, sonically. No two songs sound alike (Origin). They can encapsulate all the grandiosity of something like 2001: A Space Odyssey into a single song without it sounding restricted. Matt Bellamy's voice really is beautiful as well, I think.

Their latest album was terrible, despite the lovely three-part symphony at the end.

I can't think of any more to be honest. Kasabian aren't bad; Arcade Fire are releasing some good stuff; Elbow, whilst not my kind of thing, have a lot of heart in their music.

What the airplane woulda been if they'd gone prog instead of pop.

    Brilliant instrumental work.
The band had a lot of problems and didn't go as far as they might have given the personnel. I had two of their albums back in the day but had all but forgotten them. Found one of their videos while looking up something else (I forget what-that task went undone) and was enthralled to find out that most of the original lineup is together again (and they sound fantastic-as is evidenced by this vid from a couple of years ago):

I understand that they're going to tour the States next year. I hope to see them.

I listen to quite a lot of different stuff. Mostly rock based stuff, heavy metal and punk. Lately I've been listening to lots of Frank Turner, Thrice, Unearth, Evergreen Terrace, Springsteen, City and Colour, Deftones.
