    Night of a Thousand Stars

As a kid, I grew up watching variety shows. Five to six nights a week, I could watch jugglers, dancers, acrobats, singers, and comedians. I was sad when this kind of thing died. With that said,

If you didn't see tonight's America's Got Talent season finale, it was a spectacular night. The final four acts had done their competition round the night before, and tonight was the results.

The special thing about the final results show, is that the final four acts get to perform with their idols. In addition, other great talents come by to perform.

The show opened with contestant Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. performing with Patti LaBelle. A bit about Landau. On his first audition, he showed up dressed like a homeless person, as his vocation at the time was washing cars. The judges had to tell him to put away the gum he was chewing. Landau then began to sing, and the voice of Frank Sinatara came out. Landau only got better over the months, and his final competition number was Frank's My Way. His duet with Patti was not unlike if Frank himself had teamed with Patti.

Next up was rock band Def Leppard, who performed two of their hits-Rock of Ages and Pour Some Sugar on Me.

After a commercial break, contestants Team iLuminate performed with rock band Cobra Starship. It's hard to describe Team iLuminate, so look at this vid.

Another commercial, then it was time for the "Audition All Stars". These are the absolute worst of the audition acts-but not videos. They actually brought these talentless people on stage to perform together, singing off key and dancing terribly (fast forward if you can).

A commercial, then back to real talent. Contestants Silhouettes performed with Country Singer LeeAnne Rhimes. Like iLuminate, it's hard to describe Silhouettes-look at this vid.

LeeAnne had to perform with her back to the group as the group's message is so inspirational that it makes LeeAnne cry. Add in that in last week's show, it was leaked by the group's leader that a number of the girls in the group have cancer, cystic fibrosis, or diabetes.

After a break, rock band One Republic performed two of their hits.

Another break, then singers Tony Bennett and Queen Latifah did a duet.

After a break, contestants Poplyfe (a rock band) performed with Stevie Wonder. Like Landau, Poplyfe, had improved every week, but the pressure finally got to them. The night before, trying to do a Queen number, they messed up badly. As their duet with Stevie Wonder started, they were still nervous, but Stevie used his skill as a show biz veteran and legend to get them to pull together.

After a break, Cirque Du Soleil performed.

It was time for results, and two of the acts were named in the third and fourth place positions.

After a break, Jackie Evancho took the stage. Last year, the then ten year old took second place in the competition. Jackie sings with the voice of a thirty year old Opera Diva. Since last year, she has put out two platinum albums. Last year in the finale, she performed with Sara Brightman. This year, performing alone, but backed by a singing section, she belted out some incredible opera, showing her perfect pitch and amazing range.

The winning act was then named.

I checked NBC.com before coming here, and it's not up yet. I suspect, if you go there tomorrow, the finale will be listed as week sixteen, show 2.
They call me Spooky, Spooky Mulder. A joke to my peers and an annoyance to my superiors. Whose sister was abducated by aliens when he was a kid, and now runs around with a badge and gun yelling to anyone who is listening that the fix is in and when it hits, it'll be the crapstorm of all time.

Sounds like quite a show. If you find a link where it can be watched please do post it

Wow, sounds like a good show! I've never watched it. I'll be sure to check my TV listings and watch it next time. Thanks!

By the way, I grew up watching variety shows (Ed Sullivan, Andy Williams, Dean Martin, etc) and miss them dearly.
