    Come Dine With Me

Imagine you were planning to throw a dinner party, and you had the use of a time machine. Which famous names of history, past or present, would make up your dream dinner party table. To make it a little harder your table only has room for youself and five other people. (Note it does not have to be a dinner party, it could be going out for a drink) Here's who I would have

    Howard Hughes
    Vincent Van Gogh
    Martin Luther King
    Alexander the great
    Leonardo Da Vinci

Hmmm, I assume I can snatch away at least one of your party members?

    Archimedes
    Leonardo da Vinci
    Jules Verne
    Confucius
    Buddha
    Attila the hun
    Mao Tse Tung
    Osama bin Laden
    George Bush
    Adolf Hitler
    Joseph Stalin

The last 6 because I always wanted to see a bunch of genocidal maniacs having to get along at a dinner table while in the presence of people with actual brains and culture

Sounds like you guys will be going out for more than just that one drink

Anne Raynd- for some serious socio-political talk
Bill Hicks- for some funny socio-political talk
The Dalai Llama- to keep things in perspective
Salvador Dali- to keep us entertained
Justin Bieber- to unite all the guests with a common enemy. And just in case we run out of food....

Respect... you just made me shudder... In just one sentence you summoned up in my head images of such horror as I have not beheld in a long time. And I am not even kidding here

Jim's on my list. He used to hang out with Dylan Thomas and his clan at White Horse Tavern in the West Villiage - Manhattan. So did Bob Dylan who took on Thomas's first name as his last. I used to hang out there. But the company? Never so interesting.

    My choices:

    Jim Morrison
    Ruth Gordon
    Edward Gorey
    Dorothy Parker
    Lewis Carroll

And then one more. In Victorian times, the host would always leave an extra setting for The Uninvited Guest. So, I'm not cheating!

The sand of the desert is sodden red, -
Red with the wreck of a square that broke; -
The Gatling's jammed and the colonel dead,
And the regiment blind with dust and smoke.
The river of death has brimmed his banks,
And England's far, and Honour a name,
But the voice of schoolboy rallies the ranks,
"Play up! play up! and play the game!"
