Internet
Does the Internet ever get in the way of your writing?
As much as I love the "net" I find it increasingly distractive. But at the same time I find it...well...distractive...
Is it a valuable tool to you or does it prohibit your writing?

I think so, I mean it is great for research and stuff but I need my confinement most of the time or my work will be half-assed

Haha! Yeah. Usually when Im working on my book I keep the net open for google research (I use it constantly, I cant even imagine doing this without my precious google).
Sometimes though I get distracted with the various forums I'm on. I'm a member of over ten different forums! Ack.

Ha, that's the understatement of the year. Internet takes up way too much of my time. It also helps my writing, so it kind of balances out in the end.
Sam.

I use my washing machine to wash my clothes and the Internet to wash my... Oh, no. Again: I use the Internet mainly for research purposes.
It has helped me with writing and interacting with people, among other things. Very interesting, indeed. I use them on a regular basis because I need to, either for work and pleasure or for storing some of my energy.
The Internet is such a useful tool that nobody should do without.

It DEFINITELY gets in the way.
But also....
It DEFINITELY helps.
I mean, look at this website and other writing forums.
It's a love/hate relationship, to put it in cliche terms lol.
I'm a full time student, so the internet is in simple terms, my best friend and my worst enemy.
Then again, if I didn't procrastinate so much...
haha

Yes most definitely the Internet is my main source of procrastination. The only problem though is that i rely heavily on the Internet for research purposes when i write, so it's a bit of a catch-22 i think . Need it to write but without it I'd write a lot more.

I think that the internet is the biggest distraction any writer could possibly have. How can you concentrate for a few hours of solid writing, without at least checking your emails?
I blame the virus writers, they're such a poor bunch nowadays, they can't even close unprotected computers down, and I still remember the bliss of Klez which shut me down for a whole week and I had no choice but to write.
Mind you, my mouse pointer is moving about all over the place . . .

This site prohibits my writing.... lol.
Not to say it doesn't give some great tips. I got a lot done in the last couple days when the site was down, but none of it had anything to do with writing. All housework n' stuff.
Great research tool. And I keep in touch with my family through email and myspace. I'm probably going to plan my entire 4th of July trip with my parents & brother through email!

For information junkies like me, the Internet is both blessing and curse.
At this very moment I'm at the coffee shop with my friend who's actually writing (because her thesis is due). The theory was that this was supposed to be a WORKING (as in, writing) session. Guess what I've been doing for the last hour? *lol* Fortunately I have another two hours to actually write something that's NOT on a forum or blog...
All things are good in moderation. If you have trouble with moderation you should probably do something about it. In my case, I don't have Internet at home...just like I don't have potato chips at home.

No, but I don't write when the computer is on. Also, the net is what pays me to be a writer, so I can't say that it gets in the way...

The Internet only gets in the way if you're not disciplined. Pick the time you are your most creative and don't go on the Internet.
The other times, use it to improve your book or your knowledge of how to market your writing effectively.

Sometimes I get distracted, but I use the internet for research, for networking, and for forums Which will all help my writing out.
