I'm writing this short story that covers a long period of time. There are large amounts of time that the plot does not cover, and I need a good way to skip those. Right now, the way I'm doing it is this:
Quote:
He stopped to catch his breath, vowing never to go there again. He started home again, ready to drown his sorrows in some tea flavored heavily with whatever alcohol he could find.
A year passed, and it was winter again.

Is that the best way to do it? Or should I just skip the ~'s and say:
Quote:
He started home again, ready to drown his sorrows in some tea flavored heavily with whatever alcohol he could find.
A year passed, and it was winter again.
