Exactly, Brad.
And I also have learned not to talk about works in progress. It saps away part of the drive to self expression that make us go through all the unfun stuff of producing written work.
One thing, I DO suggest that beginning script writers start our by getting all the feedback they can on some scenes so they can work the bugs out of their formatting before launching into the whole project.
BUt I agree with what you're saying here absolutely.

I no longer discuss with people what I'm writing either. There are far too many "writers" who spend all their time talking about writing but rarely (if ever) actually write.

There you go. Leaving the game in the lockerroom, so to speak.
I see somebody come on here with "Is this a good idea for a book" and blurt our their plot and I know we'll never hear from them again.

Lol, so true lin.
"Hmm... I want to write a story about vampires. Do you think it's cliche?"
"Yes."
"Okay, I'll think of something else."
*never does, 'cause they want to write a damn vampire story, but they're afraid no one will like.

I prefer to write without other opinions on my work. That way, when I'm finished, it's mine. My SO likes to whine that I never let him read my stuff while I'm writing it, but it really ruins the enjoyment of writing when someone's pointing out things to me while I go.
After I'm finished, people may tear it apart as they wish, but until then, it's my work.
Now, to completely contradict everything I've just said, sometimes I find it helpful to get some feedback while I'm writing, especially if I'm working with an idea that I'm having doubts about. Even if I get mostly negative feedback, as long as there are a few people that think it's not half bad, then I figure it's worth it to keep at it.

lol!
Im not letting anyone read anything from my book until Ive done a great deal of work on it myself, as in, written the whole thing, changed lots of things, edited edited edited and so on. Ill have to be in a place where Im proud of it as is, but still very open to suggestions. At that point Ill let some people read it, get their input and go from there.
