1) Is it possible to obtain formal copyright of the text of a book even before making the final grammar corrections, spelling and last minute additions ?

2) Can an author make further corrections on his book after his first edition in order to improve it for the second edition without losing his copyright ?

You can copyright anything you want. By which I assume you mean register with Library of Congress of WGA.

If you want to change it later, you'd have to pay for another registration, I believe. Both places.
You could check on that. But question is WHY? Because somebody might steal the new stuff you changed?

Not really. I just wanted to know if I could lose my copyright on the original text if I modified it later.
