Sorry, guys, that I'm not more involved... I'm busy doing corporate tax returns (which curiously is my real job), and so don't see questions people ask me. But here's what our friend Lin asked,
" Hi Steve, I can repost these in the forum for your answers if you wish. If you don't mind two questions about pdf sales.
1. Do your pdf docs have links in them? If so, does that require more expensive pdf-rendering programs?
2. When you sell them, does paypal notify you of payment, then you ship them (or send a download password) or is there some automatic means of releasing the download upon payment? Thanks a lot Lin"
OK. The boring answers...
ANSWER #1: I just use Word. I use Word's Insert Hyperlink command. Then I print to a pdf file... so the actual creation is totally straight-forward. Word (basically) does everything.
ANSWER #2: Paypal, when someone pays me, sends an email message. In beginning, I would watch for the message... and when I got it, send someone the pdf. E.g., Paypal sends message saying, "Lin just paid you $29 for a Washington limited liability company kit..." Steve then emails Lin the pdf.
Nowadays (because he volume is higher) I use the
www.payloadz.com service. What happens (essentially) is that paypal tells payloadz when someone orders... and when that happens, payloadz attempts to display a web page that includes downloadable links... and payloadz also sends the buyer an email with clickable links.
Lin? If you're interested, try this by visiting the
llc formation: $29 and $49 Do-it-yourself Limited Liability Company & Corporation Kits web site. Buy a single-member
Limited Liability Company operating agreement for $12... then step through the purchase process... (go ahead and do the download and everything...) See how everything works. Look for the email notification, too. Then, when you're done, email
olga@stephenlnelson.com a refund request and she'll put the $12 back into your paypal account.
One other comment: Take a peek at the source code (HTML) on the aforementioned page... the wee bit of code shown below is what you paste into each page to "make it all happen"
