Murder Motives for a specific case
In my creating writing class we drew different scenarios for writing a mystery. Lucky me, I pulled out a case where a man (or woman) is the main suspect for the murders of several middle-school students. Why would anyone go around killing innocent kids?--that's basically the question I have to answer. So, I need to come up with a "valid" motive for these murders... any suggestions?
Thanks!

He/she molested them and needed to cover his/her tracks?

Scenario 1 Mary-Sue Travis was a bright young girl of fourteen, getting straight A-grades. But then she suddenly went off the rails, got pregnant by a thirty-seven year old man and started using heroin. Mary-Sue's mum Eleanor suspects her schoolfriends introduced her to the drugs, and she's determined to get revenge.
Scenario 2 The kids were in the wrong place at the wrong time. They might just have seen Sydney Drinkwater on the roof of the bank. Better find a way to keep them quiet.

The guy's a serial killer, and the kids saw him burying a body in his back yard. He cannot let them report him, so...
The guy's whacked out on heroin or some other narcotic. He thinks the kids are some alien life-forms coming to get him. He grabs the sawn-off, proceeds to their house, and starts blowing himself some kiddies. (Okay, a little far-fetched, but substitute 'aliens' for something else.)
They find out the woman is cheating on her husband. She spots them spying on her, and chases them in her shiny Porsche. She's only intending to scare them into silence, but she actually runs one of them over. Now she's looking at murder. She has to kill the other ones now.
Sam.

I vote for this one.
I wonder if that fact that I laughed while reading it is a sign that there's something seriously wrong with me?

Well, Faustling, does the fact that I laughed while writing it mean there's something seriously wrong with me?
Sam.

Does the fact the both of us seemed to have run into the same problem regarding the Writers' Resources forum mean that God is punishing us for our sinful sense of humour?

How about he/she picks off the ones that weren't wearing the appropriate uniform? Or the ones that stick gum under the table?
You could elaborate on a real-life scenario, e.g. the case where the mum plotted to kill her daughters rival for a spot on the cheer leading team... Make it all the ones that are running for school captain.

I think so. Let's face it, Faustling: we're doomed. Might as well throw in the towel now.
Sam.

He killed them because they remind him of his mother.
He killed her, too.

Maybe the neighbor's dog told him he should do it.

The kids are innocent, but their parents did something to the guy, a la "Nightmare on Elm Street" or "It."

This is completely off topic but how does that description apply to "It"? I haven't seen the movie but I don't remember anything in the book like that. Pennywise just shows up every twenty-seventh year or so and kills people because... well, he's an evil ass.

Not necessarily the parents, but the townspeople did some evil stuff in the past that allowed Pennywise to keep coming back. That is, if I remember correctly. Just go with "Nightmare on Elm Street."

She's a teacher who has been having sex with several of the middle school boys. It looks like it's going to come out and she has to silence them. Or, it looks like it's coming out and one of the boys decides that would look bad on his Harvard application, so he convinces her to kill the others.
Or, she's the wife of a teacher having sex with several of the middle school boys ... the rest writes itself.
To paraphrase Randy from Scream, 'there's always a reason to kill your girlfriend/ students/ insert category here.'
