IMO, there's a difference between what you like and what kind of ending fits with the rest of your story. Personally, I love startling endings, unusual events taking place in ordinary settings. These endings have a stronger effect on me than the sad/ happy ones. On the other hand, given that it is fiction and not a history book, an essay etc., you decide what to include in its reality.
One more thing: take your target readers into account.
