Drawing on the right side of the brain.
Some of us are predominately right-brained, some left-brained.
Does anyone have any workable and simple methods of freeing up the right brain?

It's difficult to draw on EITHER side of the brain, actually.
All wet and squishy.

Sit at a computer and type a story. Or sit at a desk and write one in pen.
If you aren't sitting down writing, inspiration very very rarely happens. If you are, it happens more often.

Stop thinking and start doing.

Have you read the book by the same name as the title of your post? It's actually about artwork but it might help, too. It explains the right-brain/left-brain switch quite well.
When I told you to 'stop being so critical' in one of your other very similar threads I basically meant 'get out of your left brain'.
Edit: Try looking at words differently. Instead of seeing them as puzzle pieces that must fit together a certain way think of their expressiveness, shade and color of meaning, weight, associations, word plays, poetry. Writing poetry can be a very good exercise in thinking differently about words.

This'll sound a bit esoteric but why not take a few very long, very deep breaths, clear you mind, and just type. Just let the words come out whether they are crap, brilliant, or somewhere in between. Don't think, don't correct, just type.

I've heard that writing with your left hand works. I think combining it with the "just write without thinking" suggestion might be good.
I should try that

But things could be a lot worse. You should be glad you’re not ambidextrous like me. When I write by hand, if I don’t keep my mind on the job I often get both hands going together, and I finish up

Frankly what I use is the alpha state. Creativity starts when you get quiet and let the ideas float to you.
It takes a little practice but in no time at all you can go into the alpha state in a nano-second.
How do you know you're in it -- when time stands still and the words flow without your being conscious of any outside distractions.
I use it when I paint and when I write.
But it comes with practice. I wrote an ebook called "Creative IQ" and it explains the process. You can get it here:
Creative IQ

If you played tennis and cricket would you play tennis left-handed and cricket right-handed? Do you use a knife and fork the "correct" way but butter your bread left-handed? Are you useless at right-handed throwing? Which hand uses the remote?

I would play cricket- ie. batting, bowling, right handed. Playing snooker- I would hold the cue in my left hand. Tennis- right handed. Darts- left handed.
