It's a reasonable alternative to masturbation and less messy.
Who needs dumb lists? Just write something interesting.

Because, the "dumb list" are reasons you write! It's not stupid, if you aren't aware of why you do things, why would you even bother!?
A "dumb list" can provide insight into your own motivations and, if you are like me and a lot of other people, gives at least some clarity.
Some people actually can gain from doing things like this, just because you can't doesn't mean it's dumb. Not to mention, I'm sure you didn't write out a list of 200 reasons yourself before you judged whether it was a dumb idea or not.

I'm fully aware of why I do things. I just don't feel the need to itemise every little nuance in a dumb list, not read anyone else's.[/quote]

Damn right. If I had to write the list before I could judge whether it was a good idea or not, I really would be dumb. Life's to short to itemise. Besides, there's enough repetition in the list to be able to boil it down lots.
Try:
Create.
Inspire.
Earn.

I write in a Journal whenever I get really emotional or depressed. It rains here quite a bit so I don't really get to jog like I usually do when i'm depressed. And I don't use a computer either. My hand hurts like hell after. Just something to look forward to, like a distraction, mostly. Usually I will think about something else right after. Kind of pathetic but oh well.

Hmm...I write because it never occurred to me not to. In some cases,I get satisfaction out of turning negative experiences into something positive, or see it as a way of creating on paper what(or who)ever I can't have e in real life.

Because I'm a writer. I'd be a piss-poor one if I didn't write.
There was never anything else I really wanted to be. Most of my earliest memories are tied up with someone telling me to "stop that infernal scribbling and {insert chore here}."
A large part of what I write today is to support my nasty addictions to food, shelter, clothing, running water and electricity. Still, though, at least 4 hours a day are dedicated to the general fiction novel, that I hope to sell under my own name -- instead of one of the pen names. Even if I had continued school and got my PhD and became a practicing psychologist, I would still be scribbling every chance I could find.
So when you ask why I write, the only answer I can really give is, "Why do you assume I have a choice?"

I have a hyperactive imagination and I need it to go somewhere or my head will explode.

I write for the same reason that I let my dog out when he's scratching at the door.

I like him xD.
I write because I enjoy it. For as long as I can remember I've enjoyed reading stories, and when I realized I could also write them, I didn't stop.
