Rituals--My favorite
Good evening y'all! I just was interested in finding out other writer's writing rituals. I know you all have them! I'm a huge psychology fanatic and I love asking these types of questions to the writers I meet. I research famous writers rituals, as religiously as I read. ha. but to begin, my rituals are that i drink at least three cups of green tea. and i also eat something small to keep my mind clear. by my third cup of tea, i am completely relaxed and all of a sudden i feel the outstanding euphoria of inspiration. before i sit down to my writing, i say a quote that encourages me, and when i finish, i say another quote.
so, what's yours?

None. My time is limited and I really don't have time for games. When I write, I sit down and write.

My Ritual
I guess the closest thing I have to a ritual is to be up before the sun or anyone else. I can't get anything accomplished that's worth actually being on paper if I start with any noise. But there is a very practical reason for this, I'm a procrastinator, if I don't get any writing done before my day starts (the baby and wife are up, I leave for work, etc.) the odds are, I probably won't.
Just my random thoughts,

just a cup of coffee or a caffeinated hot chocolate for me. Not a ritual, more of an addiction.

I put on a pot of coffee and clean my desk while waiting for it to finish. Neither are really rituals though. I'm just your typical coffeeholic who likes a clean workspace.

No rituals for me. I have a schedule to keep, so there is no time.

A ritual is just a crutch to make you think you are accomplishing something...
I think many writers have quirks rather than "rituals"

I get in bed with my laptop, a glass of ice water, and a calico kitten curled up next to me (I have a couple to choose from, any one will do). Then again, I am writing romance. Usually have a variety of music playing as well, most of the lights out and burn a stick of incense if I'm feeling particularly wistful.

I can't set a think down properly until after I have killed a virgin and drunk her blood. I know, sounds silly, but there it is.
And if you think it's easy finding virgin's these days, lemme tellya.

Ah, retreads. They do exist in Mexico: it's a lucrative surgical sub-specialty.
I'm waiting to hear of it popping up on Nip/Tuck

rituals
After school I have a tendancy to make a cup of tea, crawl under the covers in bed, and type away on my laptop. I like having music in the background and I like it loud. I also have stacks of books on my nightstand and on the floor next to my bed for easy reference. I guess that's my ritual.
Oh yeah, and my flashdrive is my 'holy grail'. I also plug that baby into the computer as soon as the start screen loads. I save homework until the last minute -- tee hee. : )
