The 5-7 audience is probably a tough one. They're not preschoolers any more, and while they might still want the odd princess, they are ready for more of a challange. My daughter is seven and she likes much more than your crappy fairytale. She likes the Horrid Henry series, factual stuff about animals and the planet and the body, as well as anything to do with Star Wars, Pirates of the Carribean and Star Trek. She's a real geek. She also is keen to try the classics by CS Lewis and Anna Sewell's 'Black Beauty' but they're a little difficult still. She likes them read aloud to her.
