Travelling time
One of my weak spots in my writing (as pointed out by my self appointed unpaid editor friend) was that I can't seem to get a grasp on time frames for travelling within my books.
I tend to do relatively large scale maps for my settings and I have trouble getting the travelling time down to a suitable norm which is applicable to all characters, and gives a vague idea of distance. I tend to just put however long i think it should be. Sometimes I get some feed back saying 'I thought it was further than that' or 'How come they got there so quickly the second time around?'
I'm not too sure how to address this problem. I just find it difficult to set a realistic travelling time. So how would you go about it? Map planning? Scale drawings?
