Expressing Yourself

I was once told that you can improve your writing by expressing yourself in other ways e.g. painting etc.

Personally, I dance, which somewhat suprisingly does help me express myself in my writing. When a character does something exhilirating it helps me describe it better.

What advice would you give to people to help improve their writing beyond writing and reading.

lisajane is an unknown quantity at this point
I draw and paint, though I haven't noticed any effect on my writing through my drawings.

JohnN, I would simply say live. Put yourself in danger, try things you never have before, travel, love people, laugh, laugh lots and lots. Just love and live.

I do serious walking, occasional swimming, half hearted multi-gym exercises, traveling whenever possible, and often make a fool of myself by dancing at parties.

Absolutely, 100%. Get drunk, have sex, do drugs, steal cars. But just love and live is good too!
