Networking/Chat Sites?

I have a good Idea for a story, but I am uncertain about the names that I want use where part of the story takes place. The story is totally fictional, but I am wondering if it is okay to use names big names from the internet such as facebook, myspace or yahoo for part of the story to take place. Or would I have to get permission to use those names?

Any Information on this would be helpful.

Thanks.

lisajane is an unknown quantity at this point
I can't imagine it would be a problem if you wrote them in a completely positive light, but honestly, I wouldn't want to risk having any problems later on.

It's not hard to make up your own name for your own networking site.

Yer, best make up your own name? How often in novels have you heard people say...

"they reached for the coca-cola"
"he stepped into his BMW"

It all sounds like product placement. Make up a fake name. Its the best way to go.

haha, facebible

There are too many people I know who treat that site like a religion. By writing this book you may have joined the priesthood.
