This is actually a question...

I write really, really short stories. They are usually around 50 to 100 words, sometimes going up to 200, but usually not more than that. I was wondering if the 'super short story' is an actual genre? Like, could I sell these 'super short stories' to a company in the end?

I stepped off a sidewalk and got hit by a car. The end (LOL)

I guess you'd call it flash fiction, if I'm not mistaken.

It's called 'micro-fiction' (sometimes postcard fiction), and yes, you could sell it. Not easily, but it's possible.

...

Anyways, the answer to your question is a big, fat, and juicy "no."
As Stephen King stated in a recent article of his posted at EW (or NY Times, one of the two), the short story is a dying breed. Money wise, I don't see it garnering much, especially not when composed of such short pieces as the one you listed above.

My honest opinion is that short stories are mainly read by other writers now, to see who their competition is (in all honesty I mainly compare myself to writers here, contrasting my style with theirs--entertainment wise these people are nothing to my books, y'dig?). If you want money as a writer, you'll need to crank out the novel.

Basically, short stories are the stepping stones. They allow you to practice, can get you a few bucks here and there if they win in contests, and gradually allow you to improve as you shift voices and styles in short pieces rather than experimenting over 300 pages.

Of course this is all an opinion based off my own preferences and observations. If someone says otherwise, take whoever's advice you prefer.

Snorrie, are you okay?

I'm worried about you.

First you get hit by a car.

Then you put a gun to your head.

Is your health insurance up to date?

Was it something I said?

Ahhh I know - got it now - its the paper shuffling thing!

I'm sorry - really!

Here are three markets geared specifically toward flash fiction.

Flashquake
Vestal Review
SmokeLong Quarterly

Edit: I've moved this to Tips & Advice, where it is more appropriate.

Rubbish. There are loads of markets that take, or are dedicated to, flash fiction. Some pay, some don't, and those that do pay per word, so don't expect to make much money out of it.

Ambrose Bierce sold an awful lot of flash fiction.

There's also a thing called a "drabble" which is a story of exactly 100 words. There are drabble-writing contests with prizes, I understand.

I do not think it will be an easy thing to sell but it is possible. Stephen King done a few short stories.
