The only thing people have done in this thread, besides the argument over Jack the Ripper, has been to give their opinion on your idea, just as you asked of them. Now you say that everyone misinterpreted what you were wanting because, instead of asking it straight out, you chose to make some vague link that is only apparent to you? And now you are mad about that?
If it was a perfectly genuine query, then there wouldn't have been the need for the games to see if people could pick up what you were really asking for or trying to get across. I see this thread like many of your others as of late, something to try to stir things up for your own amusement.

Even though my first choice is the gimmicky opening gambit of the two words “Adolf Hitler”, I’ll seriously consider changing the first four lines, if you can explain to me:
how making a link - of the year 1936 - between two people, or if you prefer, how making a link between two people of the year 1936,
is vague or esoteric.
“Adolf Hitler and the murderer-to-be had something in common.
(The “something in common” was making a mark on society in 1936.)
\|/
\|/
They each made their mark on society in 1936.
Hitler opened the Berlin Olympic Games (made mark on society)
And the murderer-to-be came into the world. (made mark on society)”

People have given you reasons, Ox. It is now up to you to decide whether or not to put stock in them. But I cannot, for the life of me, see where anyone who replied misinterpreted what you were asking? And, if there was something more that you included that was overlooked by those who commented that would have changed how they replied, then that is your own fault, not theirs, because of not stating plainly what you wanted to know.
Personally, I would loathe the writer who used an opening like that without following up on it throughout the rest of the story. To me, it screams of someone manipulating me into thinking there is going to be more than there is just to get me to buy the book. I would never buy another by that author, simply because I would think even they don't have enough belief in their story to let it stand on it's own without using an opening gimmick just to get people to pick it up.

Yes, you do have a point there, I see that now. Back to the drawing board.

If that is the only connection, then it's flawed before you start. The murderer doesn't make any mark when he's born; he makes his mark on society when he starts killing.
