After acceptance

Say you send in a short story and it's accepted. Do they further edit it to their liking? If they see a tiny mistake would that prevent them from accepting something, even though it's easily fixable? How does that whole thing work?

Depends on the editor. Some take it upon themselves to remove words, change punctuation, and pretend they wrote the story. Others ask you to change phrasing here and there. Still others take it as it is. Most of my published stories have been left alone.

And you can be rejected for anything; editors rarely give feedback. If you're afraid of your grammar getting you booted, improve your grammar. If they don't like your story (or to put it more accurately, if it doesn't fit their magazine), it's going to get rejected. If they do like your story and it doesn't fit their magazine, it's almost certainly still going to get rejected. If they like your story and it fits their magazine, it might get accepted.
