Question

What's the average lenght of a Children's Book? I'm sure this question has been asked before. Is 45 000 a good enough lenght? I'm thinking it's okay. The book is a Science Fiction children's book, don't know if there are any special word lenght requirements.

Thank You

I think it's usually about 150-200 pages. Unless you're counting Harry Potter, then it could be anything.

lisajane is an unknown quantity at this point
I don't write for children so I honestly wouldn't know, I would figure for a simple children's novel it would be about 10,000-20,000 words long.

Would also probably depend on what age you're writing for, and whether there are illustrations.

Well the targeted audience is teenagers 15-17...does that count as young adults? No illustrations.

Quick check of my daughters Darren Shan books, they average about 160 pages and 34,000 words

that's not considered 'children's' in the book world... it's YA [young adult] or teens...

and 45k is ok for the ones they put out in pb, as enough of the hundreds i have on my donation center shelves go up to 200 pp to make that the upper range of 'average' i should think...
