They let him do that, actually. But when he starts smearing feces, they generally apply a little restaint. And don't let him lick his fingers.

Can't you just say "okay, I was wrong."?

My experience is that he is just flat-out incapable of it. Anytime he is backed into a corner, caught in an inaccuracy or lie he just starts japing and calling the other poster a lousy writer. Whether he's even seen their work of not.
He's the kind of guy the "Ignore" button was created for.

You want top literary magazine--then you go for 2000 - 5000 words minimum.
1,000 words or less is called flash fiction or short-short, not short story.
 Drabble (100)
Flash Fiction (Less than 500 words)
 Short-Short (500-1000 words)
 Short Story (1500-5000 words)
Novelette (7500-15,000 words)
Novella (15,000-40,000 words)
Now the Very Short Story is less than 60 words. So if you want shitty Cosmopolitian or those Home Managment Gardening magazines continue to write at 1000 words.

Wow...I've taken the time to read through this thread, how come Truth Teller has a grudge on Mike? Why do you? Who are you to say he writes bad, are you an editor, publisher, agent? Someone with credible authority to say such things, other than a unpublished writer? I think that's just slamming someone for no reason, that's why I am asking what Mike has done to you, which is probably nothing??

Back on topic, Zigga, a 1000 word short story is great, as long as it is of publishable standard and you are sending it to magazines who will accept 1000 word short stories. I used to send in my short stories - the longest probably being about 1200, most about the 900 word count - to a literary magazine. Their limit was 3000 words, and while most stories in the magazine were at that word count, my little pieces were there too. Nowhere near as long as the others, but interesting to read and as publishable as the others dwarfing them.
