QUESTION

Do agents represent Short Stories, not short story collections? I'm thinking no, but I was viewing some magazine sites (Tin Cup for example) and they have a section for agented short stories. Why is this so?

It would be extremely rare for an agent to rep a short story. There is just no money to be made for their efforts. The exception might be in the case of a famous novelist who tries their hand at short stories.

That's the same thing I was telling myself. I mean I know that much. But on some sites their are different sections to send in work. For example, using Tin Cup Mag again, they want to UNSOLICITED material to go to Portland and the Agented or SOLICITED material to go to NY. I'm still at odds with this.

that makes no sense to me since, as joe noted, agents don't shop short stories around, unless their clients are household names... i can't even find a magazine with that name in a google search... so how serious a pub can it be?

Hey...I'm thinking you made a typo...Is it Tin HOUSE Magazine and not TIN CUP?? Because I saw a website for them, and they have the whole Portalnd/New York thing you were saying.
