Genre?

What is the most used genre in fiction books? I don't want to create a new story with the same genre, or take works from another book.

Dont' worry bout using a genre all over again, or using a plot similar to another story.

Just make sure to make it unique!

Don't worry about genres/plot similarities.
They happen all the time, but no matter what, they're different, because they come from different people who have different ideas in their heads.

Write drama
then write everything else.

when you're done playing around, have sex and write the first thing that comes to mind.

If that works out, I'll try it.

I think the problem is just not understanding what genre means.

Science fiction, mystery, romance, literary, mainstream, biography...these are all genres. Fiction is a genre, as is poetry, non-fiction, memoir.

You CAN'T write a book that doesn't fit in a genre. Maybe you need to rephrase your question, but probably you just need to take the advice of previous posters here.

That's a shame. All Romance is the same story retold. Some readers seem to like that.

Cheers,
Rob

Even if you write a couple of sentences, you´ll be writing in a ´genre´. The bible probably started it, adventure fiction, if ever there was a perfect example. After 2,000 years, there are no new genres left.

I have quite a big laptop, I could never eat it, but my Doberman would, he eats anything.

As they stated, do write what you want to write. If you write for the market, it's going to read that way (for better or worse). The most sold genre of fiction is ROMANCE bar none. More little old ladies (and not so old ladies, probably) buy Harlequin and Silhouette romances that seemingly everything else, nearly combined. Depending on your figure, and if you are judging hardcover or paperback sales, the figure can be as low as 40% and as high as nearly half the market. I don't know the exact breakdown after that but it's something like Mystery, Thriller (Legal and Otherwise), then everything else.

I hate genre titles too, my writing could be considered everything from sci-fi, fantasy, post-modern, literary, coming of age... It just depends on which section of what piece they are writing.

Bottom line, don't worry about it. If you are worried about making $$$, write romance, mysteries, or thrillers.
