advice for you all...
I love how this is an advice forum, but when anyone asks you for some ideas to possibly help liven their story all you people do is say "it's your story, you fix it." well that's pretty harsh for someone looking for advice and ideas to bounce off of people. Maybe you can say, well this is a few things you can do, but make it your own.
That's my advice for all of you who keep saying that.

it depends on what advice you ask! if you ask: 'should this be in 1st or 3rd person perspective?' then you are likely to find help, particularly if you give an example. but if you ask: 'i want ideas for a plot' forget it!!! they are mine and i value them too much to hand them over on a forum like this

xD Dammit he can be scary sometimes!!!!
I do understand what you are saying, Music. People that post things like that are a little pointless, I guess. Dont let it get to you. Find someone you trust to bounce ideas off of. ^_^

Bouncing ideas isn't the same as digging for them.
I've been tempted to do that, but instead i post what I have and say i'll continue the story, but I never do.
most of them are polite wet dreams anyway.

When people ask this, they generally mean "I lack the wit and imagination to come up with my own ideas - can I have some of yours, please?"
If you can't make your own story lively, no amount of help is going to do it for you. My advice would be stop writing, go watch some TV. Or, if you take your writing seriously, stop writing for 6 months and read everything you can lay your hands on. Learn by analysing how other writers do it. Not by asking dumb questions.

Good advice. I'm a periodic writer- every few months, i tend to alternate between reading and writing. It takes time, but it's refreshing.

gotta agree with mike... the main thing a writer needs to have, in addition to talent is 'ideas'!... if you have to ask others for them, you may not have what it takes to be a writer...
that's not the same as asking for feedback on ideas you do have, btw... that's perfectly ok and done all the time... but what you said [below] is silly, imo... if someone gives you the idea, how can it be made 'your own'?...

Maybe you can say, well this is a few things you can do, but make it your own.

writing is a tough business... as harry s. put it so succinctly way back when, 'if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen'...
