Starting your story?

I have a story I have been working on in my head and I want to start writing it on paper lol You know put it all together.

But I am completely out of my mind stuck on how to begin it. I just need a really good lead to let the rest of the story flow from that moment.

Any advice or tips on how to start?

Without hearing anythign about the story itself, just use a really good hook to get them hoooked on it.

For example:

The gun protruded lustfully from under the....

He fell to the ground, blood spurting from his....

The moon cast an eerie glow over the park, as Brittany ran away from some unkown pursuer....

In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit (10 bucks if you can guess that one).

Anyway, I just made those up so they may seem fit for a thriller novel or whatnot, but either way just make sure you HOOK the reader early.

A good hook for me would be to start the story with a conversation. I find that it helps to ease you into your telling. Once you start and get a few thousand words down, you can go back and review the beginning. If you feel that you need to change it, then go ahead.

The important thing is that you get something down so that you can explore your story. Hope that helps.

if there is a scene that you are really interested in, whether it is at the beginning, middle or end of your story, write that first. don't rush to finish it though. you will then get an idea of the tone you wish to set and the beginning will be easier to write.

If you can't think of a good opening, then write the second chapter, or the end, or anywhere. Start getting the story down and a beginning will often suggest itself to you.

Just start writing. It should not be a perfect kind of writing from the start. As you write the new ideas will come to your mind so you can write them down. You can always edit and improve your writing later.

For me it’s almost always hard to start something new.

I recently posted about this subject on InkSpot. It's called Start At The End. Have a look. Good luck.

I usually try to start my peices of slow. I know that not many like it, but I try as well as I can to build an atmosphere for the story before I get into it.

It can be frustrating, though.

Doesn't have to be an opening. If you've got a story in your head, you must be visualizing some scenes. Write one down.

This is absolutely true. Starting with a blank page is the hardest thing in writing, and sometimes the beginning isn't the best place to begin. I guarantee that if you feel you need to start writing things down you have several scenes in your head already that make you feel this way, they just aren't beginnings. But that doesn't matter, write those down first. By the time the first scene is necessary, you will find that several good ideas have come to you while you were writing other stuff.

And besides, no matter what, when you are finished with the first draft, you will have to edit it. So write down a crappy first scene just to get the ball rolling if you have do.

Just start writing, that's the best advice you can receive at this stage.

Try not to think about it, and don't stare at a blank page! Sometimes fresh air can really get the mind going, try taking a small note pad on a walk somewhere and start thinking about your story idea, pretty soon ideas will flow and you can jot them down in your pad!

Sometimes an idea will pop up when you least expect it, and you need to get it down when you think of it or you'll lose it some dark corner of your mind!

I hope your begining comes to you soon.

I would first write the scenes that are "calling" to you right now. You might not find that perfect beginning without paying attention to those other scenes first. I do believe that certain scenes nag and pester us like little children for a reason.

Most of my stories start out that way. I'll just write a random chapter. Only with my latest story did the very first sentences just hit me upside the head. It was always there. It was in my mind for a year before I decided to finally write the darn thing. (Originally, I planned on writing a couple more novels for practice before writing this one).
