I agree with Banzai about reading older books. Books like Agatha Christie's are easy to read quickly and will help you become familiar with words you don't use everyday.
Don't try to read books that have too many words that you don't understand. It'll bog you down and you won't enjoy doing it.
Make sure you always have a dictionary with you, so you can look words up instantly to understand them in context.
