Three birds, one stone

I had a few points, so I figured I'd kill multiple birds with one stone, so to speak. Heh. These are just a few personal questions, I've been curious about.

1. Do you write your story and ideas out by hand, or on the computer?
(I personally can't write on paper. I've tried, but I just cant concentrate. The words flow better for me when I have Word open.)

2. Do you type everything out and -then- go back and correct mistakes, and revise? Or are you the type that can't go on to the second pharagraph, until the first is -perfect-, persay?
(I'm the second type. I can't type the second pharagraph until the first is free of misspellings, and I'm happy with it. If I don't fix it then, I won't be able to write because I'll be so distracted by the mistakes.)

3. Does anyone know of any good generators online, to help with settings/character descriptions/etc?
(I know of SeventhSanctum, and it's very helpful, but I was hoping someone here might know of another site?)

Thanks, everyone. ^^

Hello Snap, and welcome to the forums! I hope to see you around! So, about your questions:

1) I'm more of a hand person, for some reason sitting in a chair infront of a blank document isn't a good place for me to write. I have to have that pen on paper and let it all run feverishly down and once I get farther, feel the pages I'd written before under the one I'm working on then.

2) I'm the first type, if I keep going back then I just cause writers block because I've stopped the flow. I have certain periods in the month where I can write just vigorusly and then times when I go dry and so when I'm in one of my moods, it's best to get as much down as I can.

3) No I can't say that I do, I don't use generators.

Hope that helped! Bye!

1 I write everything direct into word.

2 I write first, revise later.

3 There's only one good generator going, it's called a brain, and if you need to rely on other people's doodads to make stuff up for you, I'd suggest you stop writing and go watch some TV.

1. On computer.

2. Both. I revise as I go along and I also edit afterwards.

3. No, sorry.

brain

Very nice, Mike. XD
No, I dont have to depend on generators.
I just have a discreet trouble coming up with settings.. @_@ And I'm not quite sure why. So I use generators sometimes to give me a basic idea.

mostly on the computer... but often enough on pastel lined ampad, with blue ballpoint... my words flow no matter where/when/how the're captured, thank goodness...

i type away till i'm done and then do a proofread/edit/revision, if one is needed... and, btw, it's 'per se'... latin for 'by, of, for, or in itself'...

i would never use one, or recommend that anyone seriously wanting to be a professional writer use one... which doesn't mean they don't help some, but i'd advise not using such crutches if you want to develop and perfect your own writing skills...

1) Computer. The brain just doesn't get going in front of a piece of paper.
2) I try to take as long as possible to revise, but usually I don't last more than a scene, usually I last less. I've had some severe writer's block problems in the past few months, partly because of my urge to revise.
3) I will use a generator at very rare times, but they usually don't help anyway.

1) For the past year I've been writing by hand first, then typing it in. Boy does it feel good! The ideas just flow out.
2) I was really bad at editing every little line. Lately I've been getting better at just holding my nose and soldiering on (and writing goads like KEEP GOING! and IT'S OKAY IF IT SUCKS! in the margins).
3) Co-signing Mike on that one. It's never occurred to me to use a generator for anything related to writing. There's so much inspiration out here...it's in the molecules you breathe, girl!

I often sketch ideas by hand, but I can sketch them on computer as well. I usually write on the computer, but if one is not available I can write longhand if I need to.

I usually write an entire scene and then correct it before moving to the next one, but sometimes I correct paragraph by paragraph. Either way, each scene and chapter is polished before I move to the next one.

I usually have a clear idea in my mind of who my key characters are, and then I invent secondary characters as counterpoints and to fill spaces in the plot. I find with more writing, the characters come to me easier. Once the characters are clear in my head I create biographies, noting the ideas I already have onto paper to ensure consistency during the entire writing process, and filling in the minor details to round out character's lives. I also use a technique of writing biographies for almost all of the characters, in one instance I wrote the biography of the lover of one character who does not appear in the story himself, but his personality influences the behaviour of his mistress. I got the idea of writing many detailed biographies from the description of another writer's technique, and I must say that it works.

I used to plan everything on paper and then do only the actual writing on computer. But on my current wip I did all the planning on the computer and found it to be so much better because I can type faster than I write and my mind flowed so much easier.

I do both, but be careful not to do too much editing while you are writing. It interrupts the flow and hurts the story. Don't worry about getting it right the first time, just get it written.

I have to agree that the best generator is your own mind. Exercise it. The more you use it the easier it will be come up with ideas.

Besides the generators I have seen suck. I saw one that came up with fantasy names like ijdsg or ewuirq. Give me a break.
