Ah, irony at it's finest.
Although it could be considered accurate as many consider King to be useless and untalented?

I do have to say that I can agree with that. I write under a pseudonym for that very reason. Not because I live in a small town and not because of the material I have written, but for the simple reason that it is easier to distance yourself from what you may have committed to print. And I don’t mean that in any kind of bad way (if you’re wondering why you’d want to step away from your work) but the little space you can put between your daily life and your work life, for me anyway, is easier to deal with. Add that to being a private kind of person the whole thing works.

My real name is Thomas William Brown

I write under T W Brown

i think using the initials is better than just Tom, dont know why, but i have a few books on my shlves by authors like that. I wouldnt use a psuedonym because i would just end up getitng chaning my mind to a different psuedonym, and at the end of the day i want to be credited for my work. I want my friends to walk into a shop and say 'wow tom wrote another book'

books

Yeah. If I ever publish a book, I'd most likely use a pen name because I love writing, and I'd love to get my work out into the world, but I dont want fame or recognition. Heh. I have a fear of being noticed. XD

I'll probably have to get over this eventually, but for now...

Considering the novel I was directed to publish, I will have to make my choice soon if all goes accordingly.

As a person who lives in a small town, I intend to display my given name on the spine. Most individuals who have read parts of my novel already know the material I write, and most who will read it in my area will fail to be surprised due to my already eccentric personality. My material is, in fact, controversial and decidedly satirical.

Then, I am a very opinionated individual and certainly not intimidated by the views others might place upon me.

I figured I might as well, based on my lack of reputation. Hahaha.

However, I do respect the need for privacy in other small town members, I once felt the same way.

I work in a book store and when shelving, especially the genre fiction, and especially the romance. Geesh, some of these names can't be real! If they were, I feel awfully bad for these people when they were kids because kids can me so cruel.

I would want to use a pseudonym because some of the stuff I write can be controversial and the concepts I work with are strange in the mainstream. I mean, I swear if I ever publish anything Pat Robertson will try to betch-slap me, and I'll probably return it, it's only polite. (I digress) But the problem is using something realistic. Right now, I'm thinking of Olive Hue, but, as I said, I have problems with realism.

Anyway, I was curious with what people think of writers who write under other names, telling their audience that they do this as well, e.g. "Nora Roberts writing as J.D. Robb." I personally think she does this so she could just have more shelf space. It's takes up a good four rows at the book store I work for. But again we have to into account multiple copies as well as the copies of the novels we do not have in stock....

Yeah, it's an ego thing in my oppinon. If you like your work to be a little more secretive, then you'd use a pen name. If you want fame or at least some credit for your work then they keep their old name.
