Er... Could you be a little more specific? Do you mean a high school romance sort of thing or a Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants sort of thing or-?

Hmm... Well, it would be nifty if you got pretty original with it. Like, you might consider not having just the "mean girls" vs. the "good girls". Maybe weave a bunch of different people into the whole thing so that it's more realistic. Like have different labels ("nerd", "goth", "prep", "jock") and also include people who don't care about the whole social hierarchy. Just mix everybody in, I guess.

And, to make things interesting, put in some lesser-known groups, like the anime-fans, furries, that quiet psychopath-in-the-works... Not everyone can be divided into just a few groups, people are people, even in places of conformity. Factor in the mental insecurities of those people who strive to be what they are not, those who overcompensate for shortcomings, anything human. They may be kids, but they are still people, they still apply to the same rules as everybody else, and that is what would make this sort of thing interesting. Know how the mind works and how people think, why they do things.

Chick-lit plus (on steroids) - The Bitch Goddess Posse by Martha O'Connor. Excellent book, and avoids all the stereotypes.
