CCTV cameras that actually talk to you are already in use. They are being used at either entrance to the Blackwall Tunnel in London and are mainly used to speak to foreign lorry drivers whose vehicles are not suitable to travel through the tunnel. When it happens, it causes chaos as the vehicle is re-routed. Mind you, it would cause even more chaos if one of these monsters got stuck in the tunnel!

Mass surveillance is horrifying and unjustified. So is WWW2. So are all those spy satellites up there to terrify us. Yet the technology is advancing at an alarming rate. I don’t want to stray from the thread, but what about the latest voice recognition software for writers, coupled with software programmes which could (will?) eventually write your books at the touch of a button?

I hope Scotty is still around when I ask him to beam me up.

It's very scary in the UK these days, but unless people start protesting instead of just going along with it all it won't stop.

I got a new passport today, with the biometric chip... I can see all sorts of problems, ie if you don't get on with your spouse and they want to stop you leaving the country they'd only need to put the passport in a microwave for a moment or two and destroy the chip. You wouldn't be allowed travel then, even though it's blatently you in the photo.... madness.

Read 1984 - it's in there, if I remember rightly.

They're planning on expanding Oyster so you can use it in stores instead of cash - like a debit card, but you top it up on the phone or on the 'net. It's designed for small purchases you wouldn't use a regular card for, ie newspapers, whatever, another move towards the cashless society. So not only will they be able to track your passage through the tube, but every store you visit also. I know one of the guys who wrote the software and was involved in hardware tests. There is a facility to log your visit to a store, whether you purchase or not, like leaving cookies on a computer.

I believe that in certain parts of London it's still possible to fart without being noticed.

I read an article on mass surveillance the other day. Apparently in the city of Melbourne, within one minute you will be photographed by at least two government cameras. Though I believe that CCTV in Melbourne could be put to better use in other areas, like on our trains, where CCTV seems to do fuck all.

Australia comes in at #8 in the world's most watched countries by a Big Brother government. Uk is at #3, while North Korea and China are at #1 and #2. So if those in the UK think it's bad, try North Korea.

Perhaps not, but his post contributed nothing. The post was merely him trying to express his views on the situation, not actually trying to help the topic creator.

Political or not. I don't mind. All views are welcome. Gives me more of an idea of peoples thoughts and opinions on the subject.

The best way to perform mass serveillance is biochips in my opinion. It is a chip implanted in oens body with a GPS chip plus all their personal info.

OFF TOPIC: Why are all you guys so against a Big Brother goverment? The only people it really affects are lawbreakers and terrorists.

You think? You don't think personal freedom and civil liberties are things that concern everyone? That attitude is just too sad for words. It's the attitude of those that stand by while atrocities are committed, because "The only people it really affects are lawbreakers and terrorists". Belsen and Auschwitz haappened because the Government said it was right, and the people stood by and let it happen.

I heard of the possibility of unmanned drones to check for youth violence in the streets here as well.
Haven't heard of that. Though I can see it happening.
They have those noise alarms outside shops too. The ones that can only be heard by people under 18 or 21 (apparently). It emits a low shrieking sound like scraping a fork off a plate. It's intended to prevent youths gathering outside buildings.

on topic
You could have it so they think they're getting away with it, but the gov is actually watching them the whole time, setting them up for something.

You can get a similar sound for your mobile phone ringtone, for when it's on silent. Kids at schools have the sound all the time so they can hear their phone go off during class, but it doesn't work in my mum's class cause she's still young enough to hear the sound, and tells them off.

Oh, wait, I didn't realize that you were the topic creator. It was your post that I was criticizing. I still don't think that extensive political slander is good for this. But nevermind, I was criticizing your post when I didn't realize it was you that started this topic. My bad.
